Alek Mendez is an award-winning Filmmaker & Director of Photography working between his home, Arizona, and Los Angeles, driven by the same late-night love for movies and behind-the-scenes featurettes he grew up falling asleep to.

A proud Latino storyteller, he stands passionate about crafting emotionally charged, visually rich films that center character, culture, and atmosphere. Known for his collaborative energy and calm under pressure, Alek has brought that vision to award-winning shorts like Quédate Un Rato and The Grit of It All, as well as other narrative, commercial, and music-driven projects.

Founder of Sombra Pictures, LLC, Alek continues to collaborate with storytellers with the goal to grow with other creatives and tell stories for generations to find connection with.
